Permanent Partial Disability

An injured employee is entitled to receive Permanent Partial Disability (PPD) benefits if the best medical treatment cannot restore the employee to the physical condition enjoyed before the on-the-job injury occurred.

Maximum Improvement

The injured employee is said to have reached "maximum improvement" when the doctor has done everything he or she can do. At this stage, the physician will evaluate the employee’s condition and decide the percentage of disability based on the American Medical Association guidelines. The disability benefits will depend on disability rating given by the physician.

Disability Rating

If the physician decides that the employee is 85 percent of what he or she was before the accident, then the permanent partial disability rating is 15 percent. The employee’s disability benefits are based on this rating.
